The 1st BARD (Biliary Atresia and Related Diseases) meeting was held in Berlin in 2014. It was innovative, international and interdisciplinary; covering diagnosis and therapy for both surgeons and non-surgeons. The congress report, published in the Journal of Hepatology (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27164551), summarized relevant clinical and basic research from the preceding 3 years. Next year, the 2nd BARD congress will be held in 2020 in Bruges, Belgium (http://www.bard-online.com/ ) as a joint venture with the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS) LXVII scientific congress (https://congress.baps.org.uk/location/bard-at-bruges/).
