Importance of the proposed revision of EUPSA statutes

Dear Members of EUPSA,
On behalf of the Executive Board, we would like to draw your attention to the proposed revision of the EUPSA Statutes, which will be presented for approval at the upcoming General Assembly in Vienna on 22 May 2026.

This revision represents a significant and necessary step in the continued evolution of our Association.

As EUPSA grows in scope, membership, and impact across Europe and beyond, it is essential that our governance framework remains robust, transparent, and aligned with current legal, professional, and organizational standards.

The revised statutes provide several important advancements: First, they clarify and strengthen the governance structure of the Association. The roles, responsibilities, and composition of the Executive Board and General Assembly have been more precisely defined, ensuring clearer accountability and more efficient decision-making processes.

Second, the revision enhances compliance with applicable legal frameworks, particularly Swiss law and European data protection regulations. This is essential to safeguard the Association’s integrity and ensure that all operational activities meet contemporary regulatory requirements.

Third, the updated statutes modernize membership categories and rights, reflecting the diversity of our professional community while maintaining fairness and inclusivity. This ensures that all members—whether trainees, full members, or corresponding members—are appropriately represented within the Association’s structure.

Fourth, the introduction of clearer provisions regarding financial governance, external professional support (e.g., accounting, legal, and membership management), and the establishment of a potential EUPSA Foundation strengthens the sustainability and strategic capacity of the Association.

Finally, the revision reinforces the core mission of EUPSA: to promote the highest standards in pediatric surgery, foster collaboration, and support education and research across Europe.

A well-defined and future-oriented statutory framework is fundamental to achieving these objectives effectively.

It is important to emphasize that amendments to the statutes require a two-thirds majority vote at the General Assembly. Your participation and engagement in this process are therefore crucial.

We strongly encourage all members to review the proposed statutes in detail ahead of the General Assembly and to contribute actively to the discussion. Your input ensures that the revised framework reflects the collective vision and needs of our community. Thank you for your continued commitment to EUPSA and to advancing pediatric surgery across Europe.
